Yesterday I participated in the color run 5k, which was definitely one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. Now, I have participated in a bunch of 5k runs, but this was a totally different experience from any of those. I could tell right off that this run was going to be different when I saw their website and actually found myself laughing out loud at their website, and at the actual event, the staffers and volunteers were so much fun and high energy.

For those of you who do not know what a color run 5k might be, well, let me set the stage. When I got there, they gave me a registration packet, and as I looked inside I was thrilled to find a cool t-shirt, some sunglasses and some other cool stuff. Once I fastened on my number, I put on my new sunglasses and did some stretches and waited excitedly for the race to start.

Once the race began, I set out at a nice pace, but I wasn\’t too worried about winning the race, I was just there to enjoy myself and to get some good healthy exercise. After only a few minutes of running, we found ourselves enveloped in a delightful cloud of color. This was not a random attack by color enthusiasts, instead, it was the Color Bomb Squad, the folks who volunteer to bombard the runners with colored powder.

These sporadic blasts of blissful color are what makes the color run so much fun, and everyone was having a great time. I ran the five kilometers pretty quickly, getting covered with colored powder all along the way, and when I got to the finish line, I looked and felt like a living rainbow.

At the finish line, everyone was celebrating and reveling in the fantastic feeling of camaraderie and laughing about the colorful patterns across their faces. I didn\’t want the moment to ever end, but end it did and I went home, feeling just a cool feeling that stayed with me for a few days. It was so much fun that I wanted to go out and do another one straight away, and when I heard about the color run San Diego was having soon, I decided it would be the best time to go out there to visit my sister, and participate in another fun-filled color run while I was there.
