Are 3D TVs Hazardous To Your Health? These Three Facts Can Help You Decide

3D TV has arrived. It’s a new generation TV that’s shown up in the HDTV market. The jury is still out on this new HDTV product. Just for the record a 3D TV is a TV that allows home viewers to experience video content using a stereo for the eyes effect. In 3D, 2 different images of the same scene are utilized, one image for each eye. When you wear the 3D TV glasses, the images are blended and it results in creating a single image. This technology adds the third dimension illusion that is displayed on your TV. Now you should know that everyone might not be able to see this 3D effect. They suffer from something called stereo blindness. But its rare and to be honest not too many people have this problem.

It’s a sure bet that 3D TV will evolve and become more sophisticated as big business bets that consumers will flock to this new High Def product The potential for for a loyal sports fan following has nudged ESPN to lead the way in trailblazing 3D technology. 3D TV has the capability of bringing the sports experience to a new level. The home certainly is the place where you’ll wind up watching this and even though we can currently follow high-definition TV sports entertainment with picture quality and detail, the 3D experience brings you into the event so that you feel like a part of the game. You can even see the motion picture industry getting into the act. They’re churning out a new crop of 3D motion pictures for our consumption.

There are a couple of things you need to know about 3D technology. There is no technology that allows one TV to display a 2D and 3D picture simultaneously. Also not all 3D TVs are the same. Looks like we have the old Plasma vs LCD controversy reprised. Yep plasma enthusiasts swear that 3D is much better suited to their technology and they may be right. Only time will tell. The plasma manufacturers believe 3D is their future and that the 3D viewing experience with a plasma TV is superior. IBM predicts that hologram technology will evolve from 3D TVs. This new holographic technology may eventually be shrunk down for use on our cell phones and also has telepresence (video conferencing) applications. IBM evens go as far as saying it may effect the way we work with our computers. So the question is this. Will all of us watch 3D TV eventually or is it just a fad? Will consumers be willing to buy the 3D experience for the home. Well here are the three reasons 3D TV may not be right for you.

1. 3D has a funny way of ruining TV watching. Let’s face we all spend a lot of family time around the TV. Sadly much of our family socialization revolves around our TV viewing. The glasses restrict us to staring at the TV so watching 3D programming changes this interaction. Multi-taskers will lose their ability to do other things while watching their 3D TV. This means no texting , tweeting or chatting while watching 3D TV.

2. TV watching is usually a family experience so in many ways it’s a form of socializing. Watching 3D programming significantly changes this interaction. The glasses restrict us to just looking at the TV. Also multi-taskers will not like the inability to do other things (like multi-task!) while entranced by their 3D TV. This means no chatting, tweeting or texting while watching a show.

I know I gave a couple of extras but these are the 3 main reasons. Well I’m a critic and it’s my nature. I can’t help myself. This is the last thing – I promise! There is a lack of 3D product so if you purchase one of these televisions you won’t have too much to watch. 3D may be here to stay but they need to evolve a bit more. Getting rid of those glasses would be a big help. I’ll let some time go by before I plunk any of my hard earned cash on this new technology.
