How To Operate An Espresso Maker
Do not be intimidated when looking at a new espresso machine for the first time. Many of them can look confusing, but once you learn how to operate them they are extremely efficient items to own. No need to be a professional, just a few common sense tactics can help ensure the perfect cup of coffee.
The first thing to be done is to examine the outside of the machine. Notice where the steam wand and the brewing pot are, other features too like where to add the water. The wand itself is made of metal and is protruding from the machine somewhere. The brewing pot is latched into place somewhere on the machine as well and usually has some kind of a handle attached to it. All of these features have some way to turn them on and off located near them.
Once you have become familiar with the features it is time to brew some espresso. Remove the cap from the water receptacle and add just enough water to fill the container, taking care not to overfill it. Please note also, that the cap should not be opened recently after brewing as that could cause serious burns.
After adding water it is time to add the grounds. Make sure and use only espresso grind coffee and also take care to pack the grounds tightly into the filtering mechanism. Brush away any excess grounds. Place a cup under the brewing pot and turn on the machine, your coffee should begin to trickle out shortly.
Once the machine is finished brewing remove your drink from the receptacle area and turn off the brewing switch. You can use the steam wand to heat some water or milk also by placing it into a cup and activating the steam wand. Turn on the switch and slowly stir the beverage as the steam heats it.
Just remember to be careful when operating an espresso machine. Check for any warnings or indicators that may signal that the machine is still hot. When finished, be sure to turn the switches off and take proper care of the machine. A clean machine is a happy one.
