Basics in Selling Your Crafts

by Mara Hernandez-Capili

I have met many talented people in the field of crafts making and I can say that most of them have started their hobby one notch higher. They started selling their crafts and the income they receive from this made them quit their daytime jobs. They were able to transform a simple hobby to an income generating opportunity.

If youre a creative person or crafter and would like to transform your hobby into a business, then there are some tips on how you can get started. First step is you need to establish a name and logo for your business. A word of advice: consider the product youre selling as it has to coincide with your name and logo. A good business name and logo should also give a hint on what kind of product youre selling.

Next step is to view the local listings in your neighborhood to see the schedules of craft fairs or craft shows. Your goal here is to participate in these events by having an exhibit or booth dedicated to your crafts. Get to know the reservation officer and inquire on how you can avail of a booth space or exhibit space. Remember to take note of some policies that they may bring up.

Get in touch with your products prices and payment terms. You may want to give off specific discounts for customers willing to buy your crafts wholesale. Try checking out the prices of other competitors so you can have a better view at how much you can ask for each of your product. You may opt to lower your prices for better chances of selling.

Relax and enjoy the experience of meeting new and prospective clients. Dont forget to place your name and contact details on each craft as orders may just start pouring in!
