There can be many factors that can lead to roof leaks. Most common reason is the changing weather conditions. The areas most likely to get effected are : flashing surrounding the roof, surrounding your chimney or surrounding the air vents.

Poor installation, installing low quality roofing material, high winds and material that comes along the winds and collect over the roof can lead to flashing problems.

Another reason behind your leaking roof can be that your roof might have grown old. Average age of any roofing material is about 15 to 20 years. So, if your roof has almost completed it life span, you need to get it replaced.

These days much durable roofing materials are available which can probably last for more than 50 years. But if you home is very much prone to wind storms and bad weather, then you must take extra care of it. You can get extra secure fasteners installed for added security.

Due to high winds, these fasteners can get detached from the roofing material which can cause water to collect there and thus resulting in a leaking roof. This can even damage the interiors of your home, so make sure to get it repaired at the earliest.

Another common culprit of uplifted shingles that eventually can cause a roof leak is due to poor workmanship. If roofing materials are not properly installed on your roof with proper over-laps and fasteners at correct perimeters, your roofing can suffer and ultimately cause a roof leak. Most warranties given to home owner’s will cover workmanship for a given amount of time.

Keeping the roof clean is very important. Roof leaks can also be caused due to collecting of debris and other material over the roofs. Small plants and bushes that grow on the roof edges are also damaging. These should be regularly removed.

Many professional roofers recommend their customers to perform a roof inspection at least twice per year; once during the fall and once in late spring. These times of year will usually see a heavy amount of rain, so its better to catch roofing damage prior to ever having a roof leak.
