Visiting Memphis Art Galleries

Ever wondered what it would be enjoy being a rare survivor of the Holocaust or what it would take to participate in a normal Japanese tea ceremony? One of the most fascinating methods of learning about the history and cultures of the Earth is to take a little time to spend a day at one of the local Memphis art galleries. From conventional and modern paintings to complex sculptures and longstanding relics, the art galleries in Memphis will provide an informing experience like no other.

Belz Museum of Asian and Judaic Art

Whether a person is extremely well-cultured or just a fan of lovely art, the Belz Museum of Asian and Judaic Art will leave her breathless and amazed. The collection of historical pieces has a smaller section dedicated to the EU cultures while the remainder of the museum features an Asiatic gallery. The Belz Museum includes the biggest collection of Chinese art in the southern United States. With the majority coming from the era of the late Qing Dynasty, this unique grove of treasures has some of the most rare art to be found anywhere. With nearly 1000 individual pieces dating from 200 B.C. To the time, the Belz Asian collection is unique and intensive. The Judaic portion features the work of a few of the most popular Israeli artists of the modern times, including Daniel Kafri. The most important collection outside of Isreal exists at the Belz so this alone is reason to check it out.

Dixon Gallery & Gardens

One of the more unique Memphis art galleries is the Dixon Studio & Gardens. The point of interest of the studio is the fine arts collection that features 20th century French Impressionist and Realist art and 18th and 19th century UK art. In addition to this intensive fine painting collection, this gallery features enormous out of doors sculptures and garden art. Dixon Gallery and Gardens combines the more conventional studio experience with the more original idea of enjoying art in nature, from where lots of the gallery\’s pieces found their initial inspiration.

Jay Etkin Gallery

The Jay Etkin features modern and ethnic art from various cultures around the world. Found in an 8,000 square foot space, this gallery showcases masses of paper works, paintings, sculptures, stills, and media works also. Arts fans that appreciate variety and diversity will have a wonderful time at the Jay Etkin Gallery.

David Lusk Gallery

This unique gallery features a bunch of up to date work from a wide variety of artists. Fans of contemporary art will appreciate the David Lusk Gallery and it will not fail to delight. From names such as Veda Reed and Dwayne Butcher to Twin and Beth Edwards, there are so many native and global stars to look out for.

Memphis College of Art

The exhibits in Memphis opened up in 1981 and initially only showed artwork from traveling artists. Since then, the Memphis College of Art gallery has gained an abiding collection from artists near and far. The gallery also features projects from the school\’s Masters programs and exhibits the talent locally. The Works On Paper collection offers pieces from over one thousand different 19th and 20th century artists from Europe and the Americas. Some of the well-known talent includes Andrew Topolski and Friedemann van Stockhausen.
