Packers Back In Super Bowl After The Victory Over Bears
Several years ago the Green Bay Packers cut longtime quarterback Brett Favre loose following his first unsuccessful retirement in favor of Aaron Rodgers. It\’s turn very evident that they made the correct decision. Meanwhile Favre continues to diminish his legacy with poor on-field play and a variety of off-field shenanigans, Rodgers has become one of the most feared quarterbacks in the NFL. On Sunday, he led the Packers to a 21-14 win over the Chicago Bears that wasn\’t actually as close as the ending score indicates. Green Bay will at this time face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV in Dallas, Texas on February 6.
Green Bay also covered the NFL gambling lines for the game, which had the Packers installed as a -3\’ point road favorite. The win improved Green Bay\’s record beside the spread to 12-7 overall and 8-6 as a favorite. The 35 combined points scored went UNDER the posted total of 42.The Packers have gone UNDER in 12 of 19 games this season including 9 of 14 as a favorite. They have gone OVER in 16 of 26 playoff appearances since 1992.
Rodgers didn\’t have a great day, but did run for a touchdown in the triumph. After the game, he really didn\’t know what to declare:
\”It\’s an incredible feeling. I\’m at a loss for words.\”
The honor for the victory largely belonged to the Packers\’ defense. Linebacker Clay Matthews wasn\’t concerned that his team had \’won ugly\’:
\”We think a play to win the game and that\’s all that matters. Keep playing defense the style we know how, and it\’s going to be tough for players to beat us.\”
Bears\’ QB Jay Cutler left in the third quarter with an injured knee and head trainer Lovie Smith felt compelled to defend his quarterback:
\”He hurt his knee and he was out, all right? There\’s nothing else for me to tell you on that. I don\’t know exactly when it happened, he couldn\’t go and that was that.\”
Linebacker Brian Urlacher was even more enthusiastic in his defense of Cutler:
\”Jay was hurt. I don\’t ask his toughness. He\’s tough as hell. He\’s one of the toughest guys on our football team. He doesn\’t bitch. He doesn\’t protest when he gets hit. He goes out there and plays his ass off every Sunday. He put all in every single day. So, no, we don\’t question his toughness.\”
Cutler will undergo a MRI on Monday, meanwhile the Packers begin preparations for their Super Bowl matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Green Bay has been installed as a -2\’ point predilection in the extraordinary game with the total set at 46.
